So much for the Wonder of Woolies, it's wandered off into history.
Looking through the doors furthest from King St...
.. the old record dept. ...
.. and household goods.
The other doors in Halkett Place, nearer King St...
.. straight ahead to the TV / radio / cameras area "Sound and Vision".
Large - I forgot to downsize this pic.
.. and to the left, kitchenware and steps to the 1st floor.
Around into King St for the main entrance...
.. looking down the aisle all the way to the escalators.
On the left were greetings cards and stationary, to the right were the choccies and sweeties...
Outside, with the Christmas lights, showing where it nestled between BHS and Burtons...
.. closer (bit blurry).
The other direction, looking towards Queen St.
.. closer.

That's so sad... I remember wandering about in my Hautlieu uniform after school and Woollies' record dept being the coolest place I ever went.
And I like that you still call them 'records'. That's ace, that is.
Hi there, thanks for commenting.
Yes, well I grew up with records and tapes and in my mind a bit of music on a disc, no matter how shiny it is, is still a record of a musical performance :)
Happy New Year!
Woolies was the place for sweets and for writing materials. As far as I can remember, there was no public access to the upper floor.....this was for stock holding only.
Happy New Year to you too :)
(And I still say 'records' too)
Well Woolies has now closed in Gloucester. They were in a precinct yet also on the main street. You could walk through to Marks, but now there are gates preventing you. However it is rumoured that Marks may wish to take on the lease of the old Woolies and make a really major store out of the two sites.
