An educational recreation of WWI trenches has been built at Samares Manor, Jersey.

It's in a field between the manor house and Rue du Coin, this shot taken from the track from the lanes to the manor yard.
Entrance to the site is through a tent...
.. and barriers keep us away from the lads in the trenches, so they can try to experience the horrors of war as much as possible.

Thank God our forefathers were courageous enough to do what they had to do. If only the lessons from back then had been truly learnt and remembered....

how come they are allowed to dig a site without archaologists being present? I thought this was SSI a site of special interest? there is a trench up at les landes still with the original sandbags from the last war that would have sufficed for the few re-enactment soldiers that took part, what a waste of time and resorces and damage to history they have caused!!!

Anon, I don't know if anything ancient was disturbed there... is that field an SSSI? Does one extend down from the dolmen nearby on the hillside?
Whoever wrote the second comment should bear in mind that these young men have almost certainly learnt a lot from this experience, not to mention all those who visited the site over the weekend. Surely that's better than the whole page of history fading away in a dusty book?
Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
