Insane-erator

I'm OK with the recovery of energy from waste (nobody often complains about Bellozane) but placing the fugly monster here on the coast which should be protected at all costs, where prevailing SW winds will blow the toxic fumes over the most populated areas of the island, and right next to a coastal Ramsar site at danger from toxic waste - could it only happen in Jersey? Do we have a global monopoly on disastrously bad government? :)

Just what we need to spoil the view from the east...

.. closer.

An unwelcome presence from what should be olde-worlde charm at Havre des Pas...

.. not good.

- not forgetting that the policy of allowing 7 storey giants along the south coast from Havre des Pas to Greve d'Azette (but nowhere else?!!) is going to ruin this place anyway.

So here it is, merry incinerator, everybody's having no fun.

.. closer.

Not unduly miserable from the harbour, at least.

Hidden behind other festering eyesores at West Park.

.. but an odious lump on the horizon from farther west...

.. closer.

From South Hill...

.. it doesn't make much difference...

.. amongst all the other industrial ugliness...

.. but it does somewhat spoil the view from La Collette Gardens...

.. which used to be full of tourists when we had hotels around here, when we had tourists, when we hadn't priced the island out of the game.

Oh dear. Relax in a Green Space by power stations and incineration, enjoy the fumes.

Might as well close the gardens.

All we need now is an emergency access road along here...

.. to destroy the prom, too.

It's a good job Jersey still has some good points in its favour, or I'd be out of here like a shot!

Misc

As if anyone would buy it!

Actually, politics does prove that there's one born every minute :)

Havre des Pas, and in the foreground a type of bin you don't see so often these days.

Another view

La Collette Gardens...

.. with a view...

.. down Mount Bingham to the end of Green Street...

.. where both the pub and the hotel are now just housing.

Some miles away but still on the south coast, near Corbiere this time...

.. nice day for a spot of fishing.

- or sight-seeing.

A new residence...

.. closer.

Looking up the west coast...

.. and a view from La Pulente.

Evening sun reflects off the granite sea wall...

.. and romance is still possible, apparently... even if I've given up personally :)

Planning site, South Hill

A few shots showing what a glorious view the Planning Dept has. Not surprisingly they have a masterplan to sell off the site for yet more luxury flats. In principle that's a good way to raise money for the public good, but I'd hate to see a large tall development ruin the view from South Hill. What do you think?

More unwelcome development

At South Hill, the most southerly part of the Fort Regent military complex on La Mont de la Ville, lies an oasis of "green lung" calm (with La Collette Gardens as a neighbour). The only manmade intrusion here was a gym and some reversing bays for learner drivers. Now though, the JEC are building a "switching station" here, quite why there wasn't a better place to put it (somewhere near the new incinerator on reclaimed land, perhaps?) we haven't been told.

Needless to say, I'm not too happy to see building work here in what should be a protected green zone.

(from up the top of South Hill)

.. closer.

Down in the gardens, with the old swimming pool's roof beyond.

.. and from the mound of the gardens to the east.

The reversing bays entrance has been widened ...

.. and a new bay has been added. If any learner slips on the pedals and lurches backwards over this edge it will be an expensive mistake!

215 years ago the roads were a bit different around here.

I guess this means nothing to the Planning Dept.

Night and Day @ 50 Colomberie

50 Colomberie, a £7 million property designed by Naish Waddington and owned by Richard Brocken, features a new £40,000 aluminium-bronze relief called Night and Day, created by acclaimed sculptor Michael Sandle (73) as part of the Percentage for Art scheme.

Ann Court carpark

(Some shots of what Ann Court used to look like)

The demolition is complete, the ground has been levelled and parking spaces marked out. It makes a nice open area, it could be a good town park ;)

Having said that, it was a nice warm weekend day, and I didn't see any kids playing here - it could be great for a kick-about - so is the demand really there?

They saved one tree!

Temporary car park, or part of a plan to get residents used to it?

It's a good place for parking, nice and close to the town center.

Looking up Minden Place...

.. closer.

.. and closer. I couldn't really make it out in the viewfinder from a distance, so it's always a pleasant surprise to accidently capture a shapely lady by complete fluke :)

Shows how warm it was for mid March, not bad at all... Jersey the Sunshine Island and all that.
