A random selection of recent odds and ends...



The old pool up at the fort is getting more and more vandalised.

The old Drive-In site is being cleared.





Banners announced the coming of digickle telly. It's been really good to have more choice and such a clear picture - I wouldn't go back to analogue! I'm glad we weren't the last region to change over!

More unwelcome development

At South Hill, the most southerly part of the Fort Regent military complex on La Mont de la Ville, lies an oasis of "green lung" calm (with La Collette Gardens as a neighbour). The only manmade intrusion here was a gym and some reversing bays for learner drivers. Now though, the JEC are building a "switching station" here, quite why there wasn't a better place to put it (somewhere near the new incinerator on reclaimed land, perhaps?) we haven't been told.

Needless to say, I'm not too happy to see building work here in what should be a protected green zone.

215 years ago the roads were a bit different around here.







I guess this means nothing to the Planning Dept.

The Weighbridge Area

I don't see what the problem is with keeping this place known as The Weighbridge. It used to be one large open area with a weighbridge there! Just because it's divided up now with a road in between where the weighbridge was, that's no reason to abandon a name we all use.


A brightened white-sky version, to make it easier to experiment - ever wondered what it would look like with just the historic fort up there?
If it looked like that today, would it be credible to propose developing a 200 year old Napoleonic Fort into a modern leisure center?!

Fort Regent entrance area

From Pier Road multi-storey carpark, two escalators take you up to the Fort entrance...

Waterfront from Mt Cambrai

As a casual exercise of what can be seen from there, I took a quick snap, stopping briefly on the road, and accidently caught a bird in flight :)






Closer, a 'crop' of the area doomed to be over-developed into a Finance Quarter against the wishes of everyone I've ever mentioned it to...

View west from Fort Ramparts

(and no big wheel required!)

Here's the wide view from the ramparts, taking in the delights of the Steam Clock, "West of Albert" urban sprawl and underpass, the tunnel entrance, Weighbridge Area, Liberation Square, the "Island Site" and bus station, Esplanade etc.



The statue area in Liberation Square, and the old abattoir area behind (being renovated into a shopping mall).






It's not great, but better than the waste of time sunken road they're planning.






Delightful Jersey charm.
