St Aubin, and what variety of numpty approved that modern box up there on the skyline above the old traditional streetscape? I like up to date architecture but this is well out of place!

Numpties At Work, part II - sad to report the death of Common Sense. Several parking spaces have had to go JUST so that there is one entrance/exit opening. Was it really so bad?!!!

To the East then, and a good low tide goes out quite some distance beyond the end of the unfinished Archirondel breakwater.

A tide like that means you can walk in a straight line between La Rocque and the castle without getting your ankles wet.

A Tesco in Jersey? Who'd have thought? We get to walk in from Sand St and emerge in York Street again.

Goodbye to the Type 646 bunker at Wn Lewis Tower

October 2014 and we hear that a bunker is due to be demolished along with the old Chateau Plaisir in St.Ouen.

 .. closer. It's a Type 646 bunker, used for pumping and storing water for the Lewis Tower resistance nest group of bunkers.

It was hidden within the Chateau building since the 1950s. This shot gives you some idea where...

A week or two later, and the site is cleared enough that we get a good view from the main road...

 .. closer. At this point, it wouldn't be too late to save it. But alas it wasn't to be. To make way for some wealthy people to enjoy luxury houses here, Planning decided not to take any action to save it.

First, the indignity of a toilet resting on the roof, then it became half a pile of rubble (I didn't take a shot last week)...

   

.. and now.. bye bye.At least the CIOS salvaged some metalwork for use in other bunkers that they open to the public.

There are other Type 646 bunkers along the Five Mile Road...

.. here's another. So maybe it's not too bad a loss. But please, Planning, can we have a bit more care and attention paid to historic buildings so we don't see any more disappear without due consideration?

Mad plan to waste £400,000 spoiling old harbours

 To join up the cycle paths from La Collette to Commercial buildings, the plan - now backed by a Roads Committee with a history of absurd anti-car-ism - will see the 'English' and 'French' harbours eaten into, to widen the road and include a dedicated cycle path - if Planning agree.

They say "The granite work would be in the same style as the existing walls, but all the existing granite and slipway cobbles would be left intact behind and beneath the new structures."

I don't believe they'll get it to look authentic, and I think it would spoil the look of these old harbours and slipways. Maybe not so much this one by South Pier ...

 .. but definitely this one. And look - there's a wide enough pavement on the wall side of the road that only gets used because there isn't a pavement on the water side.

So why not scrap the existing pavement, move the road over, and have a shared pavement and cycle path on the harbour side? A zebra crossing could allow access to the steps up to Pier Rd, it's not as if it would see any major use and hold up the traffic. Much cheaper to swap the road and pavement over than to spoil the old granite work!

Insane-erator

I'm OK with the recovery of energy from waste (nobody often complains about Bellozane) but placing the fugly monster here on the coast which should be protected at all costs, where prevailing SW winds will blow the toxic fumes over the most populated areas of the island, and right next to a coastal Ramsar site at danger from toxic waste - could it only happen in Jersey? Do we have a global monopoly on disastrously bad government? :)

All we need now is an emergency access road along here...

It's a good job Jersey still has some good points in its favour, or I'd be out of here like a shot!
