Paragliding at La Pulente

Five up in the air at once, a few weeks back.

Trying to get it up (no sniggering at the back!)

I couldn't get the colour to look natural, this will have to do.

There's an awful lot of lines in there.

Running out of lift...

.. circling around aiming for the beach...

.. down and down...

.. lower and lower...

.. nearly there...

.. touchdown. Botherations, I messed up the shot - look at the blur!

Fire at L'Etacq

There used to be a pub here...

.. up to the right, that headland looks a bit scorched...

.. a furze fire again... this patch has only just got back to normal since the last time...

.. some asshat smoker probably...

.. funny, I only just commented the other day about the lovely yellow gorse!

Another look at that development site.

Oh, and Happy Mo' Day :)

La Collette prom

Down the path alongside the power station, heading east, a seaside prom.

Around the corner...

.. there's a vandalised shelter below the gardens...

.. through the windows.

View (blotchy, over-processed!) to a distant slipway

The prom between Green Street slipway and the Fort d'Auvergne at Havre des Pas...

.. with a bit of a redevelopment gap.

Oh how this area used to throng with visitors :(
- expect the restaurant to close next.

Looking back at the secluded (hence vandalism-prone) corner below the Martello Tower (yes it is a genuine English design Martello like Kempt Tower)...

.. in the other direction, another corner...

.. and the final stretch to the toilets-cum-cafe featured a day or two ago here...

.. and the old cottage from the last pics, above an impressive cactus.

As we approach the slipway...

.. there's a shelter that's actually cared for.

More soon...

I still haven't heard if this coastline is at risk or not, from the plans I once heard mentioned for an emergency access road to the reclamation site and incinerator. I hope there will be howls of protest if they do try it.

So far there has only been the proverbial deafening silence.

Building at risk - HDP cottage

This old fisherman's cottage at Mount Bingham is one of a number of properties most at threat.

Easy footpath access from the La Collette Gardens.

View along the prom at Havre des Pas, a hotel converted into appartments, one cafe and another hotel demolished, and the Fort d'Auvergne at the end is about to be replaced by a 7 storey block of flats!

Looking back in the direction of the gardens, and a view of land reclamation, a power station soon to be joined by a huge incinerator, and rumours have yet to be denied that this coastal walk is about to be lost to an emergency access road to that incinerator.

Just as well there aren't too many ways to ruin beaches via stupidity, or in order to satisfy their greed... *sighs*

More Converted Lavs - La Collette

Another public toilets block has been converted to a cafe (yet to open), at La Collette...

.. closer...

.. the other way.

Up on top, where I presume cafe patrons will be able to sit with their ice-creams.

.. enjoying a view like this...

.. (closer) while it lasts ...

.. (closer) I believe all this wonderfully peaceful old seafront will be destroyed, filled in for construction of a new access road to the incinerator (nice view for those new flats too!)

The other direction, eastwards...

.. from the edge...

.. closer - ex-hotel boarded up makes the prom walk a bit dreary there, and the pub on the road corner is now flats too.

Down the steps

L'Etacq - Springtime

The gorse is looking very yellow at this time of year...

.. and out of the passenger side window, the whole of St.Ouen's Bay with plastic covered fields...

.. closer...

.. the Relais pub has been bulldozed, making this area entirely pub-free / hotel / restaurant-free (remember the Marina Hotel / Bar / Restaurant, Bal Tab, Lobster Pot, Milano Bars?)

Plastic fields...

.. closer, towards the Lewis Tower.
