Double Decker spotted

MyBus (Connex) are running a trial of a double decker bus, the first time one has been over here for many years, I believe.

New Airport Control Tower

For the last few weekends, trips to see the new tower at the airport have allowed the lucky few to enjoy the spectacular views from 39m up. On a clear day the French coast can even be seen. You had to be in the right place at the right time to see the right TV news, rush to an internet and look up the right phone number, and then be one of the first xx callers. Needless to say, I wasn't one of these lucky few who enjoyed the Jersey equivalent of a golden ticket to see the choccy factory.

There is a panoramic view here, but can I ask if any of the lucky visitors took photos that they could possibly share with us? If so, please create a zip file of the piccies, put it on rapidshare or some other free mega upload site, and send me the link in a comment here which I won't publish if you don't want that. I would love to see the view from up there and share it on this blog if possible... thanks.

Insane-erator

I'm OK with the recovery of energy from waste (nobody often complains about Bellozane) but placing the fugly monster here on the coast which should be protected at all costs, where prevailing SW winds will blow the toxic fumes over the most populated areas of the island, and right next to a coastal Ramsar site at danger from toxic waste - could it only happen in Jersey? Do we have a global monopoly on disastrously bad government? :)

- not forgetting that the policy of allowing 7 storey giants along the south coast from Havre des Pas to Greve d'Azette (but nowhere else?!!) is going to ruin this place anyway.

Oh dear. Relax in a Green Space by power stations and incineration, enjoy the fumes.





Might as well close the gardens.







All we need now is an emergency access road along here...

It's a good job Jersey still has some good points in its favour, or I'd be out of here like a shot!

Planning site, South Hill

A few shots showing what a glorious view the Planning Dept has. Not surprisingly they have a masterplan to sell off the site for yet more luxury flats. In principle that's a good way to raise money for the public good, but I'd hate to see a large tall development ruin the view from South Hill. What do you think?

More unwelcome development

At South Hill, the most southerly part of the Fort Regent military complex on La Mont de la Ville, lies an oasis of "green lung" calm (with La Collette Gardens as a neighbour). The only manmade intrusion here was a gym and some reversing bays for learner drivers. Now though, the JEC are building a "switching station" here, quite why there wasn't a better place to put it (somewhere near the new incinerator on reclaimed land, perhaps?) we haven't been told.

Needless to say, I'm not too happy to see building work here in what should be a protected green zone.

.. and a new bay has been added. If any learner slips on the pedals and lurches backwards over this edge it will be an expensive mistake!
